Fields, Forests and the Foal

The entire dream was in shades of brown, from amber to near-black.

I was trying to get out of a sparsely wooded area. I was following a path. The path led me to an open field with a small ravine.  A lake was at the bottom of the ravine. The lake was crowned with some dead trees - or possibly dormant trees, given that the rest of the environment was invoking an autumn theme.

The path wound back and forth downward to the water. I walked around the lake and up a straight path through a field to the sparse woods on the other side. Following the path through these woods, I found myself back at the same lake; Back on the side where I first encountered the lake. Walking back down the serpentine path, I saw a white or cream horse tied to a tree standing about knee-deep in the water.

I set it free. It walked away slowly in a direction not following either path.

Again I walked up the opposite path and into the woods. Again I found myself at the top of the twisted path, looking down on the lake. Again there was the horse, its reins tied to a tree, standing in the lake. It was now in the water up to its shoulders. Again I set it free.

I went up the straight path and walked around the surrounding field, its amber grasses waving lightly in a breeze I did not feel. The sun was high in the sky, but not directly overhead. I was unsure if it was before or after noon. I pondered this for a few moments, only stopping because I awoke from my slumber.
